BACK TO BASICS - FIND YOUR JOY!

“It’s the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary.” – Paulo Coelho

It seems that in these days of social distancing we have gone back to the basics. The other day on Face Book I posed the question, “What are some of life's simple pleasures that you have discovered or re-discovered during this time?”

If you are struggling to stay positive, or you are bored out of your gourd and in need of ideas, here are some of the responses from far and wide:

  • Gardening, working up flower beds and planning my summer garden. – Barb Franklin, South Bend, IN

  • Photo albums and sorting those 'keepsake' 'stuff' that is family important … and of course the lists that will explain it to people – Treva Braley Traub, Didsbury, AB

  • Dinner through the decades! Meals include food, music and fashion history. – Marla Suzanne Reimer Young, Greensboro, NC

  • Puttering around the house. Just being home. – Catherine Kobasuik, Vancouver, BC

  • Reading and more time for being outside in nature and going inside for more relaxation, meditation and contemplation – Sandy McNolty, Vancouver, BC

  • Propinquity – the concept is nearness of heart... Came to me in the 70's Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. – Stephen Cyphers, Evergreen, CO

  • Scrapbooking of my kids, grandkids and all my worldwide travels. – Edith DowMoffit Didsbury, AB

  • Phone calls to friends, taking walks in the neighborhood with family, standing outside saying hello to neighbors across the street. – Rachel Eaton, Chicago, IL

  • Baking bread, reading, trying new recipes, trying vegetarian meals. It’s all about food! - Tarue Kemppainen, Kelowna, BC

  • Well, I do sleep more. – Bon Dos, BC

  • Home projects...rock garden, new stairs off the deck, repairing a retaining wall, fixing downspouts etc, etc. I want everything done so I can go play when this is over. – Warren D Reid, Kelowna, BC

  • Literally time to BE … reconnect with my WHY, exploring that WHY... how will this time contribute to my growth and the growth of the gifts I have been given to develop and invest in others. – Suzie Joy, Kelowna, BC

  • Baking new recipes, gardening, painting in canvas, some crochet as well:-) – Silvia Zuanazzi, London, ON

  • We now have family dinners and we've been cooking a lot, board games, we are really coming closer as a family. – Joel Boone, Nashville, TN

How will you make the most of this season? What are the simple pleasures in life that give you a sense of contentment, joy, make you smile, or warm your heart?
